Tanzcompagnie Rubato

Jutta Hell and Dieter Baumann founded the dance company Rubato in 1985 in Berlin. To this day, they have developed 70 full-length pieces in various artistic collaborations, which have been presented on numerous tours around the world. Many of these guest performances were supported by the Goethe-Institut.

From 1989 to 1992, they worked with Gerhard Bohner and received the Sponsorship Award for Performing Arts from the Academy of Arts Berlin in 1992. Rubato has created commissioned productions for institutions such as the Academy of Arts in Berlin, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, the Tanz im August festival, the State Museums of Berlin, the steirischer herbst festival in Graz, the Jin Xing Dance Theatre in Shanghai, the Guangdong Modern Dance Theatre in Guangzhou, the Powerstation of Art in Shanghai, Several Dancers Core in Atlanta and Houston, and the State Opera in Ankara.

From 1995 to 2019, they maintained continuous residencies and co-productions in China. The dance company Rubato has been supported for many years by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, the Capital Cultural Fund, and the Performing Arts Fund.
