Inventory Analysis

An initial measure of the TanzArchiv Berlin steering committee was a qualitative survey of 34 selected institutions and dance artists in order to identify collections, determine needs and collect ideas for the newly founded TanzArchiv Berlin.

The aim was to find out directly from the dance scene how the archive could be adapted, ideally to suit the needs of both its providers and its users. The aim was to obtain an overview of:

• the collected and currently available inventory,
• whether the surveyed institutions or ensembles/choreographers had collected or archived their material according to a specific concept
• what interests and needs the interviewees had with regard to a dance archive in Berlin and
• the extent to which cooperative work processes within the framework of a dance archive in Berlin could be of interest to the interviewees.
